Gary Phillips is the author of over twelve novels and graphic novels and has contributed to several anthologies. His recent work includes an expanded re-issue of Monkology (2011), 15 short stories about his private eye Ivan Monk. Publishers Weekly said of this collection, “Monk has a toughness all his own, however, and a noir sensibility shines brightly in stories like ‘Lowball’ and ‘The Raiders.’” His graphic novel Cowboys (2011) is about a cop and a FBI agent undercover and unknown to one another on a collision course on the same case, and Underbelly (2010) is a novella about a homeless Vietnam vet searching for a disabled friend who has disappeared from L.A.’s Skid Row.
